To battle the deepening recession, UK ministers are working on proposals aimed at injecting fresh capital into banks, relaxing rules regarding balance-sheet strength and government guarantees of banks' troubled assets. Chancellor Alistair Darling is finalising the plans in order to make an announcement at the beginning of next week.
