Ariz. lawmaker plans development of used-fuel recycling site

Developing a reprocessing facility and storage site in Arizona for used-fuel rods from U.S. reactors could spur economic growth in the state, said state Sen. Al Melvin. Fuel-reprocessing technology is available to help lessen the amount of the material that would have to be stored, he said, adding that Arizona also has numerous underground salt deposits for used-fuel storage.
