New Ebola research finds protein targeted by the virus

Scientists from several facilities collaborated on research and found that mice engineered to lack a cellular protein called NPC1, which helps regulate cholesterol, survived infection with an Ebola-related virus. Ebola, a deadly hemorrhagic virus that affects people, causes up to 90% mortality. These findings may one day lead to new treatments for and prevention of Ebola.
