Research: Drowning hospitalizations decline for children

The number of hospitalizations for pediatric drowning declined 51% between 1993 and 2008, according to a study in the journal Pediatrics. Researchers assessed data from the Nationwide Inpatient Sample and found that children younger than 4 years old had the highest drowning-related mortality rate and were more prone to drown while bathing or falling into water.
