Telemedicine finds growing niche in hospital ICUs

Continuous monitoring, video conferences and send-and-store digital information are the three main areas of telemedicine, which is showing positive outcomes when used in ICU settings. A nationwide shortage of intensivists is driving growth of ICU telemedicine, according to Dr. Mary Jo Gorman, CEO of Advanced ICU Care in St. Louis, who says 1 in 10 ICUs in the U.S. now use the technology.
