HIMSS data show how EHR incentives affect IT use in hospitals

HIMSS Analytics has released data indicating that federal EHR incentive initiatives have played a role in boosting IT adoption at hospitals over five calendar quarters starting in the third quarter of 2011. The data also show the number of hospitals with HIMSS' Stage 7 ranking -- those with the most advanced EHR systems in place -- has grown by 63% while the number of Stage 5 and Stage 6 hospitals has grown by more than 80% during that time frame.
