Stalled $1.8B N.J. mall project could restart this month

Work on the long-stalled former Meadowlands Xanadu mall project in New Jersey could restart this month, according to various state officials. The $1.8 billion project, renamed the American Dream Meadowlands mall, is expected to create more than 9,000 construction jobs and 10,000 project-related jobs. "In the short term, the construction industry desperately needs jobs, and that project would provide a major infusion of dollars from salary, wages, income," said James Hughes, dean of the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers University. "It’s sorely needed in that regard."
