US Airways twice proposed AA merger; second plan being considered

US Airways Group sent a letter April 20 to AMR CEO Tom Horton that contained the first proposal of a merger, sources say. The original proposal suggested US Airways own 50.1% of a merged carrier, but it was ignored by American Airlines. A second proposal in mid-November, which is under consideration, leaves US Airways shareholders with an ownership stake of around 30% in a merged carrier.
