What could be the downside of reusable shopping bags?

Legislation against plastic bags has spurred the use of reusable bags, but those come with their own risks, a study argues. Unlike single-use paper or plastic bags, reusable bags are seldom cleaned and can harbor potentially deadly foodborne bacteria. Limited data suggest they could be contributing to an increase in such illnesses.
