Leadership development costs U.S. companies $14 billion a year, but it's debatable how much return they get on that investment, write Pierre Gurdjian, Thomas Halbeisen and Kevin Lane. The most effective development programs train leaders to succeed in a specific context and focus on training that can be easily quantified, they write. "When businesses fail to track and measure changes in leadership performance over time, they increase the odds that improvement initiatives won't be taken seriously," they write.
