Auditors find accounting safeguards lacking in Neb. college system

Auditors found deficiencies in the payroll system at the Nebraska State College System that allowed staff members to pay themselves or raise their own salaries. Auditors said a lack of segregation of employee responsibilities led to the loopholes, but found no evidence of mistakes or theft. "We think we have some fixes in place that would stop the kind of issues the auditors are concerned about," system Chancellor Stan Carpenter said.
