Miss. higher-education leaders lobby for increased state funding

Leaders at colleges and universities in Mississippi are asking lawmakers for a 5.5% increase in higher-education funding this year. The increase, they note, could help them fully implement a new equity formula that provides funding to the state's eight universities based on completed student credit hours. The leaders are seeking a total of $385.4 million for the coming year, which is a $20 million increase.
