N.C. university to be site of new manufacturing institute

North Carolina State University will be the site of the first in a series of hubs, to be established as part of a White House plan to build partnerships between universities and businesses to boost manufacturing technology. At least $140 million will be invested in the new hub by the U.S. Energy Department as well as businesses and universities, as researchers seek to create new, more efficient semiconductor chips and power devices. Two more hubs, led by the Pentagon, are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
