NPD: Apple, Samsung gain at the expense of other phone-makers

Apple slightly widened its lead over Samsung Electronics among U.S. smartphone vendors in the fourth quarter compared with 2012, but combined the two rivals controlled 67% of the market, a gain of 10 percentage points, according to NPD Group. Apple increased its share from 35% to 42%, while Samsung gained four points to reach 26%. Among other smartphone-makers, only LG Electronics improved its market share.
