Senate Dems call for 911 location rule with cellphones

Senate Commerce Committee Democrats on Thursday urged federal regulators to require that emergency responders have the ability to track 911 calls on cellphones as well as on landlines. CTIA-The Wireless Association®'s Christopher Guttman-McCabe testified, however, it was premature to consider such a rule. "I do want us to be cautious about having an FCC process get ahead of the actual technology capabilities," said Guttman-McCabe. He asked the FCC to work collaboratively with carriers as proper technology is developed.
