U.S. domestic wine sales, jobs post large gains in 2013

U.S. domestic wine sales were up in 2013 and the Winery Job Index grew by 27% for the year, according to the Wine Industry Metrics by Wines Vines Analytics. Off-premise wine sales showed a 7% increase for the year, reaching a high of $7.34 billion, while direct-to-consumer sales reached $1.58 billion in 2013, also posting 7% growth. Jobs in hospitality, sales and marketing and winemaking drove the 27% increase in 2013 over 2012, and December hiring was 54% higher than in December 2012.
