The future of the U.S. renewable-fuels sector is tied to the prices of oil and corn, as well as to long-term government policies such as the Environmental Protection Agency's decision on boosting the ethanol mandate, writes analyst Kent Thiesse. Although research on cellulosic ethanol continues, it appears that commercial applications will take years to achieve, Thiesse adds.
