EPA: Va. town has inadequate procedures for handling chlorine gas

Culpeper, Va., could be fined more than $160,000 by the Environmental Protection Agency because of a chlorine-gas leak. The town's risk-management procedures for chlorine gas are inadequate, the EPA wrote in a letter late last year. Culpeper could agree with the EPA this week on a settlement regarding the 2008 leak at the town's sewer plant, a town official said.
