Facebook users just want to feel like they belong


Facebook fills important psychological needs for its users, Boston University researchers say. People use the network to improve their self-esteem, to create coherent identities for themselves and to feel like they belong to a community of friends, a study found. That makes the network particularly useful for shy people, minority groups and members of collectivist societies, the researchers argue.
