Supreme Court won't hear Applebee's appeal in employee lawsuit

The U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear a challenge by Applebee's International to a lawsuit brought by more than 5,500 bartenders and servers, paving the way for the case to proceed in the lower courts. At issue: the "tip credit" that allows eateries to cut hourly pay as long as tips bring workers up to minimum wage; the workers say the time they spend on cleaning and other work that doesn't generate tips shouldn't be counted.
