Cost of construction material rose 1.3% in 2012

Construction-material prices increased 1.3% last year compared with 2011, according to an analysis by the Associated General Contractors of America. "Moderate price swings for several materials last year gave contractors some breathing room, but future price spikes could push many firms into the red," Chief Economist Kenneth Simonson said. "Contractors have not recovered from the cost increases they had to absorb in 2010 and 2011."
