Navy to deploy carriers less often but for longer periods

The U.S. Navy will deploy aircraft carriers less often but for longer periods beginning later this year. U.S. Fleet Forces Command leader Adm. Bill Gortney said Wednesday that carrier strike groups will be at sea for eight months, deploying every 36 months, making the maintenance period longer and giving sailors more consistency.
