Russell goes global in index battle with MSCI Barra

Russell Investment Group launched a new family of global stock indexes as the company competes with index rival MSCI Barra, which is partly owned by Morgan Stanley. Russell, owned by privately held Northwestern Mutual, says its new Russell Global Index adds 7,000 stocks from 63 countries to the shares tracked by the U.S.-based Russell 3,000.
