Wash. to share Medicaid patient data to prevent drug abuse

Washington state plans to begin sharing medical details about Medicaid recipients who have been identified as having chemical dependencies. In an effort to reduce abuse of prescription narcotics and prevent patients from "shopping" doctors for prescriptions, the state will send pharmacy, inpatient and emergency-room information to medical professionals who have treated the patients.
