Relevance is important to making e-mail marketing work well, according to experts. E-mails that target the customer's personal interests -- discounts on the specific ink cartridges previously purchased or a specific genre of book bought online -- are more successful at getting a customer to buy more products than generalized e-mails from the same vendor.
