Fitch Ratings sees Australian securitization cut by half

Sliding demand for mortgage-backed securities will cut the size of Australia's securitization industry in half this year, credit ratings agency Fitch predicts. Securitization has been an important funding source for banks and mortgage originators as competition increased in home lending over the past decade. More non-bank lenders could drop out of the market if they are unable to secure funds supplied by the securitization industry.
