Soaring fuel prices prompt some carriers to boost surcharge

American Airlines raised its surcharge on domestic round-trip flights to $40 to offset the soaring price of fuel. The airline did not add the surcharge on routes where it competes with discount carriers. Delta Air Lines has matched the surcharge, and some experts believe other carriers could follow suit.
