Health care groups urge secure, anytime access to EHRs

Health care organizations say economic stimulus legislation should tie health IT investments to the development of systems that allow patients and providers to securely access electronic health records at any time. A dozen groups have joined to send a letter to Congress outlining how such a system would work and urging that EHR systems supported with public funds "must fulfill a patient's request for an electronic copy of all or part of their medical records."
