JAL seen edging closer to SkyTeam; Air France-KLM pledges support

Alliance rumors continued to swirl over the weekend as Japan Airlines appeared headed into bankruptcy protection as early as Tuesday. Japanese press reports said JAL on Friday agreed to a new partnership with Delta Air Lines and the SkyTeam alliance, though a SkyTeam spokeswoman said Monday that no decision has been reached. Meanwhile, a Dutch newspaper reported that Air France-KLM had agreed to inject hundreds of millions of dollars into JAL if the struggling Asian giant does make the switch from Oneworld to SkyTeam.
