Lawsuit is most recent roadblock for D.C. convention hotel project

Marriott Hotel Services has filed suit against The JBG Cos. and others, alleging that the companies have filed baseless lawsuits in an effort to block the construction of a proposed convention center hotel in Washington. JBG sued the city in September, arguing that the hotel deal involved an illegal sole-source process and will provide little public benefit, despite being backed by millions of dollars in public financing. Marriott's lawsuit argues that JBG, which co-owns the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, is trying to derail the deal in order to force concessions regarding a condo project that JBG, along with an investor, had proposed.
