Los Angeles students commemorate King holiday at community events

Students in the Los Angeles area are taking part in events to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., including school-beautification projects and a youth speechwriting contest where students articulated their views of King as a hero. One seventh-grader credited King with helping achieve the diversity she experiences at her middle school. "Because he helped to defeat segregation, I have lifelong friends I never would have had," she said.
