Many hotels in the U.S. are struggling to fill their rooms, but almost 100 hotels are scheduled to launch in 2010. Nearly half of those new hotels will be located in New York, according to Smith Travel Research. Houston will get 30 new hotels, while Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami and a few other cities also are in line for new hotels. Mark Lomanno, president of Smith Travel Research, says the reason so many hotels are opening despite the economic downturn is "hotel building cycles rarely mesh just right with economic cycles."
