Repeal of estate tax prompts choice between children, charity

Lawmakers allowed the estate tax to expire at the end of 2009, setting up a choice for many high-net-worth individuals between leaving money to their children or a charity. Most estate planners did not expect the tax to lapse, so they didn't ask their clients to make such a decision, according to Carol Kroch, vice president and managing director head of wealth and financial planning at Wilmington Trust.
