Report: Hospitals differ over adverse-event data collection

Hospitals have different intentions for collecting data on adverse events, a report from HHS' Office of Inspector General said. Some hospitals use the data to improve patient safety while others use it for monitoring or payments processing. Thus, a broad recommendation for a public disclosure procedure for adverse events might not be applicable for all hospitals, the report said.
