Are steep cuts in compensation sustainable?

Employees may accept a pay freeze and fewer benefits during a recession, but the same will not be true when economic conditions improve, experts say. While some companies are experimenting with fun perks such as meditation services, these efforts are stopgaps, says Adam Cobb, a professor at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School.
