High prediabetes rates seen in patients on antipsychotic drugs

Data on 783 adult psychiatric inpatients who were on antipsychotic drugs showed that 10.2% had undiagnosed diabetes and 37% had prediabetes. Researchers also found an obesity prevalence of 25.2% among patients with prediabetes compared with 13.6% in those with normal glucose tolerance. The findings appear in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry.
