Leadership lessons from Android's design overhaul

Changing the direction of an ongoing project is difficult, says Matias Duarte, Google's Android design chief. To persuade Android's engineers to support a facelift, Duarte commissioned a study of users' thoughts about the operating system and got the engineers to interpret its results. "I needed to have a mechanism that would both give me confidence that we were making the right changes and would also really engage everybody," Duarte says.
