It took 12 hours to place 1,750 cubic yards of concrete that will be the foundation of the test rig for Clemson University's Wind Technology Testing Center in South Carolina. "The pre-planning for this took about four months, just the logistics," said Jim Tuten, project manager of the Restoration Institute’s Wind Turbine Drive Train Testing Facility. "Not only did we have to get the concrete here, we had to perform quality tests on the concrete as it was coming on site, as it was being poured." The foundation is built to withstand wind forces from blades that are 500 feet in diameter that are being tested there.
