Campaign warns of increasing diabetes rates as population ages

The government-sponsored National Diabetes Education Program has kicked off a campaign to raise awareness of a possibly "explosive epidemic" of diabetes among the elderly as the population ages. Nearly one in five older adults in the U.S. has type 2 diabetes, and the campaign emphasizes the important role of exercise and diet in reducing the risk of the disease.
