Nigerian women's rally deemed an "embarrassment" by Sharia police

Calling a planned protest by divorced women an "embarrassment" and "un-Islamic," the director of the Sharia police in Kano, Nigeria, has called for organizers to cancel the event. "Never in the history of Islam have women taken to the street to press for their demands," he said. Organizers agreed to postpone the Jan. 29 rally.
