North Carolina district ditches conceptual math text

Wake County, N.C., elementary schools will stop using a conceptual math textbook that focused largely on word problems. Teachers say the textbook, "Math Trailblazers," was difficult for students who are struggling readers, but when the text was first adopted, officials believed it offered students a good balance of traditional learning and lessons on applying what they learn to real-life situations.
