Study: More than 80% LGBT students victims of verbal abuse in schools

More than 80% of LGBT students in different ethnic and racial groups said they were verbally harassed in school because of their sexual orientation, and one in three were physically harassed, while two of three said peers teased them because of their gender expression, according to a study from the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network. The report, titled "Shared Differences: The Experiences of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Students of Color in Our Nation's Schools," also found that more than half of black, Latino, Asian and multiracial students said they also were verbally harassed because of their race or ethnicity.
