UN: South Darfur hostilities could put 30,000 at risk

A "catastrophic humanitarian situation" may result if Sudanese rebels attempt to regain control of Muhajariya, their former stronghold in the South Darfur region, UN peacekeepers warn. Further hostilities in the town, which was the scene of a Jan. 15 battle between two rebel factions, could expose 30,000 civilians to "levels of violence previously not seen," said the UN's acting humanitarian coordinator for Sudan.
