Chemical-safety watchdog to investigate explosion at Texas university

The U.S. Chemical Safety Board will conduct an investigation into the causes of an explosion at Texas Tech University's chemistry department that left one student severely injured. University officials said the explosion occurred when a high-energy metal compound detonated as it was being handled. Texas Tech is working with Northeastern University to study high-energy materials for the Department of Homeland Security.
