England's teachers need protection from religious discrimination

Teachers at England's faith schools could be victims of religious discrimination unless an equality bill being considered is amended, according to a coordinator for a group seeking to end religious discrimination. Without changes, teachers could be fired for actions "incompatible with the precepts, or with the upholding of the tenets" of the school's religion. Teachers also could be hired, paid and promoted based on their religion, even though their salaries are funded by taxpayers.
