Influential council taps Deere CEO as chairman

Sam Allen, CEO and president of Deere & Co., was named chairman of the Council on Competitiveness, a group of business executives, university presidents and labor leaders that helps develop ways to ensure U.S. prosperity. Allen, who has been with Deere for 34 years and has worked in numerous capacities, succeeds Charles Holliday Jr., a retired DuPont chairman who will become the council's chairman emeritus.
