Opinion: DOT moving toward greater consumer protections

Anecdotal evidence suggests the federal government is taking a more consumer-friendly stance toward airline regulation, and Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood says that's no accident. "Aviation consumer protection is one of my top priorities, and we are taking a fresh look at the industry from that perspective," he says. Though fines and consent orders have remained relatively constant, DOT's Aviation Enforcement and Proceedings office has seen its staffing level more than double in the past decade.
