Study finds how metformin helps prevent cancer

Metformin helps reduce colon cancer risk in high-risk diabetes patients by protecting cells from DNA damage, Canadian researchers found. Researchers said the drug helps decrease reactive oxygen species in the cells that is produced when cells burn nutrients to produce energy. The findings appear in the journal Cancer Prevention Research.
