Device to increase shelf life of donated blood is in the works

New Health Sciences is working on a device, called Hemanext, that stores donated blood in an anaerobic bag to keep oxygen out and possibly increase its shelf life. The company hopes to launch a European study of the device early next year and a U.S. trial by late 2015 or 2016, CEO Martin Cannon said.
