Smartphones surge into market lead in Brazil

Young Brazilians are increasingly turning to smartphones for Internet access as part of a trend in favor of the devices. By the end of this year, eMarketer estimates, nearly 40 million Brazilians will be using smartphones. Sales of the devices in the third quarter of 2013 surged 147% compared with the year-earlier quarter, bringing the devices' phone-market sales share to 58.1% for the period, per International Data Corp. figures.
